Personal Safety Workshop
Event description
This 90-minute Personal Safety Workshop was created to provide everyone, regardless of experience or skill level, with the tools they need to feel safe and in control. We believe that self-defense should be uncomplicated and practical so you can focus on what's important - your safety.
In our workshop, you will explore a variety of scenarios and learn targeted skills that are right for you. You'll also learn how to use your voice to set boundaries and defend against common attack methods.
Topics include:
- Situational awareness: Understanding and recognizing pre-assault indicators
- Verbal defense: boundary setting and de-escalation strategies
- Introduction to fundamental strikes, kicks, elbows, knees, etc
- Introduction to grabs: releases and escapes from standing positions
We believe that every woman deserves the right to navigate this world with the confidence and security that comes with knowing how to protect themselves.
Led by Christina Vasili
Christina Vasili is a personal safety coach and comedian based in Denver, Colorado.
Christina was initially drawn to the discipline of self-defense shortly after she started standup comedy. She knew that the scene could feel safer for female comedians and enlisted the expertise of Rachel Mahloch, founder of Battle Woman, to organize self defense workshops for her and her peers. The goal was to arm performers with the tools—both physical and verbal—to navigate and de-escalate unsafe situations, whether on stage or off. Christina was amazed by the impact of this workshop and chose to train to be an instructor herself.
Christina uses her personal story of surviving sexual abuse and navigating anxiety and body dysmorphia to influence her teaching style. Her unique combination of empathy and humor creates a safe and approachable space to learn life saving skills.
