Description

When Variables Team Up: Interactions in Real-World Research

Many research questions involve variables that work together. In regression models, an interaction is used when the association between one predictor and the outcome may depend on another predictor. For example:

  • Do genetic variants change patients’ blood-pressure response to medication.

  • Does the relationship between stress and depression depend on social support.

  • Do temperature effects on enzyme activity differ at different pH levels?

  • Does the effect of fertilizer on crop yield depend on irrigation level.

  • Does change from baseline differ between groups (difference-in-differences).

  • Factorial experiments. Do two treatments work differently when given together?

In this seminar we will explain when to use interactions, how they work, how to include them in your analyses, how to interpret them and visualise the results.

The talk will be about 40 minutes long and following by discussion.
