SENES FLAMENCO ENSEMBLE
Based in Melbourne Australia, SENES Flamenco Ensemble brings exhilarating live flamenco dance & music performances to diverse audiences since 2011. Its central ideas are motivated by the freedom for artists to express themselves through dance and music in an authentic, truthful manner in order to engage with audiences through the art of Flamenco. They have performed at numerous festivals and and nearly every stage large or small in Melbourne and surrounding Victoria.

The ensemble aims to inspire cross-cultural understanding through sharing the art of flamenco music and dance.Working in conjunction with talented artists across diverse genres, it is dedicated to the development of multicultural performing arts and arts education in Australia.

AYA KITAOJI

Flamenco Dance / Cajón / Vocals

From age 5, Aya was trained in classical, contemporary and folkloric dance before travelling to Spain to study in the heart of flamenco; Seville Spain at 14. Her comprehensive training included studying with maestros of flamenco dance and music in Madrid, Seville, Jerez de la Frontera & Cádiz, as well as with Adrian Galia in Tokyo, Japan.
Aya established “SENES Flamenco” with guitarist Alejandro Florez in 2011 to encourage the growth of flamenco in Australia. She continues to travel to Spain regularly and in 2019 presented her solo show “Son de La Calle” with Carlos Lobo and Ernesto Bravo in Seville, Spain. In Australia, she continues to share her knowledge, experience and creative works through performances, workshops and regular classes at her studio, “Centro de Flamenco Melbourne”.

ALEJANDRO FLOREZ

Flamenco Guitarist / Composer

Alejandro was born in Melbourne of Latin American & Mediterranean heritage. His original Spanish guitar compositions are heavily influenced by his extensive experience and knowledge of traditional Flamenco as well as Latin Jazz. As a songwriter and flamenco guitarist, he is often invited to collaborate with Australian and international artists across many genres such as Jazz, Classical and also Latin American folk music.

After extensive travels playing and touring through Asia, Europe, Latin America and Australia, in 2010 after launching his project “Solquemia Spanish Guitar”, he has also released two independent albums of his original compositions; "Solquemia" & "Limonera" has since sold thousands of copies to audiences in Australia, Europe, Asia and the Americas. Alejandro performs regularly with his band “Solquemia” and also shares his passion for flamenco guitar through teaching private guitar lessons in Melbourne and as musical director of SENES Flamenco.

NATHAN SLATER

Guitarist / Composer

Australian born/Melbourne based guitarist and composer Nathan Slater has become a unique and powerful voice in the local scene and is emerging as one of the most exciting and original musical voices in the country. His virtuosic playing couples with his approach to the traditions of Spanish, Argentinian and Brazilian music. Beyond the command of his instrument, his musical upbringing has been very diverse, studying traditions such as Jazz, Flamenco, Tango, and the music of Brazil. His playing and compositional approach reflects these influences, creating music that is rich, elegant and deeply moving.
Nathan has been a sideman and led his own ensemble since moving to Melbourne in 2004. He has performed, recorded, toured nationally and internationally with such artists as Gian Slater Trio, Arte Kanela, La Rumba, One night in Buenos Aires, Ross James Irwin, and Australian tango Champion dancers Fabio Robles and Ana Andre
