Event description

What are sensorial extensions and how can they be used to support and scaffold cognitive development and executive functioning for 3-6 year olds? Come and join a session to explore Sensorial Extensions in the Cycle 1 classroom.

In this session we will explore how Montessori Practitioners can encourage and facilitate sensorial exploration and extension activities in the classroom. Beyond the rich and engaging sensorial experience that fosters curiosity and creativity and supports cognitive and physical development, sensorial extensions can help further refine discrimination skills, creative thinking and executive functioning. We will work through examples of sensorial extension materials, how to facilitate engagement with extension activities and potential gains and positive outcomes for children’s development.

Exercises for the Education of the Senses are designed to lead the child to an intelligent and imaginative exploration of the world and support problem solving, decision making and critical thinking.
