In this group we will be using plants to invoke our senses of sight, smell, touch, and even taste. Join us for a short but deep mediation practice of connecting with nature through this experience!

Each week Johnny will bring in different non-toxic plants, such as lavender, mint, and wooly lambs ear. Johnny will be performing guided meditations or playing singing bowls while each participant uses a plant sample to ground themselves in their senses. Sometimes an inquiry question will be provided. We will then spend 10-15 minutes in meditation after which we will have the option to share input on what came up for them during the meditation or how they felt about this practice.

This class is based on the concept of therapeutic horticulture: empirical evidence has proved that plants have the ability to promote psychological and emotional well being of people.

All plants used in this group will be non-toxic, and will not produce psychoactive effects.

Johnny Garcia is Horticulture student at C.C.S.F pursuing an A.S in nursery operations. He is also a student of the U.C.L.A extension obtaining a Horticulture therapy certificate, aiming to become a certified Therapeutic Horticulture practitioner with the American Horticulture Therapy Association. Combining 3 years of personal meditation practice with his knowledge of plants, he brings a curriculum based on the concept of therapeutic horticulture with a touch of buddhist wisdom.
