This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

As part of The Victoria Park Writers' Festival, join renown local published poet, author, editor and facilitator, Mimma Tornatora will demonstrate a sensory approach to stimulating the poetic writing process by creating and writing beautiful poetry that will leave an everlasting impact on its readers.

A mindfulness and mediative approach will also be used to allow for relaxation to reenergise the cerebral cortex to produce beauty on the page. Participants will leave the workshop with several early draft poems to be continued and explored in their own time and space.

Format:

1. Welcome and introductions.

2. Participants will be asked to write down their intentions for the poetry writing workshop. Intentions will be kept private  and revealed at the end of the workshop.

3. Session 1: Participants will be invited to partake in a Cold Writing Poetry Task for appropriately 5-10minutes. The objective of this task is to gage the difficulties of writing without a stimulus and without preparing the mind, body and soul to propel creatively. Opportunities to share the experience will be encouraged.

4. Session 2: Participants will engage to learn how to prepare their mind body and soul to be ACTIVELY READY TO WRITE WITH PURPOSE AND CONVICTION.  The use of a variety of mediums will be used to prepare, engage and stimulate the five senses to bring poetic creativity to the page.

5. Session 3:  Participants will partake in a Post Meditative Poetic Writing Task. Meditative writing music will play for approximately 15-20 minutes and during this time, participants will write poetry. At the end of the session, a sharing opportunity will be encouraged with reflective questions to stimulate discussion.

7. Each participant will be encouraged to reveal and share the intentions that were set at the beginning of the workshop.
