At the beginning of each Farm Kids session we take the children on an educational and fun tour of The Farm. We educate them about our cows, pigs, bees, chickens, flower crops, herb garden, orchard and veggie crops. We discuss concepts like paddock rotation for the animals, pollination, organic farming, healthy soil and composting and other ethical farming practices. The children get up close and personal with our pet chickens and when available we taste veggies, edible flowers and herbs.

SESSIONS

Friday 22 September: Mini Farmers - Bees
9am - 3pm | A tour of The Farm, learn all about the importance of bees, make beeswax candles and lip balm, cook honey pikelets and paint and plant a bee flower pot.

Monday 25 September: Mini Farmers - Pigs
9am - 3pm | A tour of The Farm, visit the pigs and discuss paddock rotation, make a pig keyring and pig themed bookmark, and cook a cheese and ham toastie using farm fresh bread (veg option available).

Tuesday 26 September: Workshop - Nature Craft
9.30am - 12.30pm | A tour of the farm, discuss the craft items we are making and then forage in the farm gardens for items to help us to make these nature crafts such as nature bubble wands and nature masks.

Wednesday 27 September: Mini Farmers - Chickens
9am - 3pm | A tour of The Farm, learning about healthy chickens and eggs, cook an omelette with fresh garden herbs, we upcycle the eggshells from our cooking to make egg heads with watercress hair, and use feathers in a craft activity.

Thursday 28 September: Workshop - Native Bees
9.30am - 12.30pm | A tour of The Farm, check on the native bee hives, discuss the job of a native bee, make a tin can and bamboo bee house and a natural lip balm with beeswax and honey.

Friday 29 September: Mini Farmers - Cows
9am - 3pm | A tour of The Farm, talk about cows, animal welfare and eating meat, learn to make butter, make a cow themed trinket jar and craft a cow themed bookmark.

Monday 2 October: Mini Farmers - Lavender
9am - 3pm | A tour of The Farm, talk about types of lavender and their benefits and healing properties, in craft we make lavender bags for under our pillow, lavender bath bombs, and a DIY lavender cleaning spray.

Tuesday 3 October: Workshop - Fruit
9.30am - 12.30pm | A tour of The Farm, identify fruit that grows in our gardens, taste some unusual fruits, make fruit smoothies and in craft do some fruit printing.

Wednesday 4 October: Mini Farmers - Beneficial Bugs
9am - 3pm | A tour of The Farm, talk about ecosystems, go on a bug hunt, plant some bug attracting plants in our Farm Kids plot, craft butterfly and bug magnets, make a soothing bug bite balm and create a natural pest deterrent spray.

Thursday 5 October: Workshop - Flowers
9.30am - 12.30pm | A tour of The Farm, discover flowers and their purpose, all about pollination and edible flowers. Create a pocket flower press in craft and make a jar of botanical bath salts.

WHAT TO BRING

Children will need:

Sturdy walking shoes
Raincoat
Sunhat
Healthy lunch box and water bottle for the day
Backpack (to carry above)
All items need to be labelled

WHERE TO MEET

We will meet at the Farm House opposite the restaurant. Please look out for the signs to guide you.

AGES

These workshops are appropriate for children aged 5 and older. If your child is 4 they can come with siblings and you will need to remain onsite at The Farm. Children as old as 15 have enjoyed our workshops. Checkout our Mini Farmers program if you want a full day working farm experience.
