    Event description

Canberra Slam aims to be the Capital’s home for Stories and Spoken Word.

Join us for our September Slam featuring and incredible Dharawal based performance poet, Rachael Williams!

Rachael Williams is a spoken-word poet, university student, nanny and writer living on stolen Dharawal country on the NSW South Coast. She grew up on Darkinjung country on the NSW Central Coast, and started performing spoken-word when she was 16 at Will Small’s ‘SpeakUP’ slam in Gosford.

She was an Australian Poetry Slam Sydney finalist in 2018, and in the same year became a published poet in the ‘Street Poets’ alongside Andrew Cox. Since then, she has featured and performed at Enough Said Poetry Slam, Bankstown Poetry Slam, West Side Poetry Slam, Bread and Butter Poetry Slam in Newtown, and Yours and Owls festival.

She takes pride in writing and performing poems based in queerhood, girlhood, boyhood, mental health, religion, and social justice. Her life’s work is in writing herself out of her head and into the world, into your future favourite films, musicals and books. She drinks Stone & Wood beers and when her phone dies, she texts herself romantic one liners from her friend’s phones.
