Event description

G'day

Just thought I’d say that to kick things off. Hope you don’t mind…

Now, you’re probably thinking that BMV’s next Field Day will be on in a week or so. Well, you’re wrong. You see, we can’t compete with the Festival for Fathers on the First Sunday, so for this month only, we’ve moved the Field Day to the Second Sunday in September.

And, indeed, it will be, especially for aficionados of the Ancient Art of Boneseed Pulling, which is one of the greatest Sunday morning activities ever known or even imagined.

We’re going back to John Hardy’s Lower Tintara vineyard on Twentyeight Road. You’ll see the Yellow Cockatoo signs at the driveway, about 400 m south of Kays Road. You can either pull into the track to park on site, or park on the side of the road and walk from there.

The start bell will sound at 9.00. The un-start bell will sound at 11.00. In between, we will work our butts off, a heaving mass of humanity fighting the good fight.

Last time we were here we pulled out just over 40,000 boneweeds (I had to count them all and now I know how many weeds it takes to fill a Sunday morn...). This time we’re aiming to double that, so almost 120,000 plants to be ripped out by their puny little roots. With the recent rain, the ground will be damp and those unsuspecting weeds are just gonna leap out of the ground at the slightest provocation.

Bring a friend with you so they’ll know what they didn’t miss out on! The more the merrier.

As to this month’s fashion tip, I’m going to recommend a brace, or braces, to support your aging frame, if that’s what you have. Back, knees, elbows, neck, wrists, jaws. Brace them all—there’s gonna be a lot of bending over and some straining. If you don’t have an aging frame, forget what I just said and wear something less bracing. Or just come as you are.

But, regardless, be prepared to bend an arm when we’re all done because, as always, pausing to eat and drink will be a mandatory activity for the famished mob.

And, if you are coming, please register here. That way there’ll be snags for all.

See y’all there. I can’t wait.
