September School Holiday Program
Event description
Teaching our next generation the importance of sustainability is a core value of Thrifter Jnr. We are offering an intensive week long 'holiday program' for children aged 7-15 focusing on sustainbility, sustainable fashion and protecting our planet Earth in fun and creative ways. We have guest artist and speakers to provide engagement for the children each day.
Upcycling is a brilliantly creative way to draw attention to the importance of recycling. Finding new uses for materials that have been cast aside as useless, and transforming them into uniquely personalised objects, stimulates our imaginations. With a large focus on upcycling fashion, sustainable fashion and ways we can reuse and recycle, we are also providing a sense of empowerment and encouragement to children. Renee has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to working with children in a supportive environment and has sourced passionate speakers/artists to share their love through our local council and specialists.Ā

Sustainable candles are made from natural, renewable, and biodegradable materials that have a
lower environmental impact than traditional candles.Ā Sustainability can be defined as the
ability to meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is about finding a balance between economic, social, and environmental factors to ensure long-term well-being for both people and the planet. This means
making choices and taking actions that consider the impact of our actions on the environment, society, and economy in the long term, rather than just focusing on short-term gains.
Here, students will make sustainable candles made from homemade ingredients with Leigh from Eco Envy. Leigh is a high school educator and prides herself on her passion for pre-loved, re-used and up cycling clothing. They are also biodegradable, meaning they can decompose naturally without releasing harmful chemicals into the environment.
