FAQs
- Is this event free?
Yes it is free! We're taking a bet that there are enough businesses and organisations in this country who want to get behind an event that helps awesome young people like you get ready for what's next. They'll be funding the tour.
Please note there are limited spots available so we ask that you take the commitment to coming on the day seriously as other students may have missed out on a ticket.
- Is this event only for people who are completing Year 12 in 2026?
Yes this is specifically for students in Year 12 in Australia in 2026.
- What will happen at the event? What content will be covered?
The event will be a combination of interactive presentations and workshop-style activities delivered by Alana Kilmartin, author and founder of Unserious Careers. As the name of her book suggests, she doesn't do boring and won't be standing at the front of the room for 3 hours shouting advice. It will be interactive and you will have the opportunity to reflect, brainstorm and put action plans in place for your own career. Dare it be said...you might even have fun.
- Where is the event being held? How do I get to the venue?
This event is being held at James Cook University (Nguma-bada Campus, Smithfield, Cairns). The specific room will be confirmed roughly 2 weeks before the event and directions will be sent via email.
- Is the venue accessible for students with disabilities or additional needs?
Every venue is different so we want to get this right for you. Please send an email with your needs and we'll reach out to the venue to find out: events@unseriouscareers.com
- Can I grab more than one ticket and bring a friend?
We absolutely encourage you to bring friends but they will need to grab their own ticket. Send them the link to this page to register!
- Is this only for Year 12s who don't know what they want to do, or is it for everyone?
The content we'll be covering at the event can be used regardless of whether you know what you want to do or not. If you don't know what you want to do it will help give you clarity and if you know exactly what you want to do it will help you accelerate in the first 12 months after school.
- I'm not planning to go to university, is this event still suitable for me?
Yes! The content is suitable whether you’re planning to go to uni or TAFE, enter the workforce, start a trade, take a gap year or follow another awesome path.
- If I register but can't make it anymore, what should I do?
We totally get life can be unpredictable. If you can no longer make it, we would appreciate you cancelling your ticket so that we can offer your spot to another student. In the confirmation email you received after registering please hit "Manage Order" to cancel your ticket.
- I have another question that's not answered here - what should I do?
We have a longer list of FAQs on the tour website. If you can't see the answer there, please send us an email: events@unseriouscareers.com
