These classes have been designed to create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space that is accessible, affordable, and social. They offer the opportunity not only to learn a rewarding new skill but also to connect with others through shared experiences. The focus is as much on collaboration and community as it is on personal growth and learning.
INTRODUCTION TO SEWING // MENDING // INDIVIDUALISE YOUR CLOTHING
This class combines three of our most popular topics into one flexible and inclusive session. Whether you're curious about the basics of sewing, want to learn how to mend and extend the life of your clothes, or you're interested in adding a personal touch to your wardrobe, this class is for you. You can explore all three areas or focus on just one—it's entirely up to you. We've opened the class up to multiple topics to make it more accessible and tailored to the interests of more people.
You will have the opportunity to learn:
Intro to Sewing
- How to thread a sewing machine, and wind the bobbin
- How to use a sewing machine
- Basic stitches
- Figuring out tension
- Resolving issues that you may come across
- Gathering techniques
- Attaching fabric together
Mending
- finishing armholes and necklines with bias binding
- elastic channels, waistbands
- taking excess fabric out of garments - making garments smaller using darts
- hemming pant, dress skirt, sleeve lengths - changing lengths
- patching holes with fabric
-attaching buttons
Individualise your Clothing
- Pockets, patchwork pockets, fun pockets!
- Gathering, frills, adding ruffles, flounces, pleats
- Creating channels to thread elastic, drawstrings, shirring
- experimentation with decorative stitches
- Bring your own machine or use one of ours!
All resources, tools, fabrics will be supplied!
Tea & Coffee supplied.
These classes are small - maximum of 10 people per class.
*Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult/guardian. Carers do not need to purchase a ticket. There is a cozy lounge area for carers/guardians and others should they need to / wish to attend the class, but not actually participate in the class.
