-----------------

Picture your ideal Ren Faire or fantasy outfit... dream of the fey, the artists, the knights, and YOU, twirling about them in a look that's just right... Now let us guess: it's complete with a perfectly-fitted bodice, isn't it? OR are you just curious about pattern drafting and boned garments? This 2-day drafting & fitting workshop is for you!

Prerequisite: While there is no previous class requirements, participants should be familiar with operating a sewing machine. We ask that all participants know how to wind and load bobbins, thread machines, troubleshoot a jam, and be comfortable sewing with seam allowance and backstitching.

Sew With SCRAP: Draft and Fit a Renaissance Bodice

Two Saturdays: May 24th & May 31st, Noon-5pm both days.

Over this 2-day, 2-weekend, 10-hour workshop, we’ll use our measurements to draft stays-stiffened bodices in a style like those of the 15th through 17th centuries.

Ren Faire and Sewing Enthusiast Kate will guide you through:

  • Using a generator to draft a conical bodice block.
  • Turning that block into a working pattern.
  • Creating baste-on lacing strips to save time and materials.
  • Sewing up and fitting boned mockups.
  • Identifying material for boning, both traditional and reused.
  • Translating alterations and style choices back to working patterns.
  • Construction methods for your finished bodice.

Confident sewists may even create a finished bodice by the end of our two-day workshop. Still, students of all working speeds will walk away with a fitted mockup, and the materials to create a finished bodice for their costume, cosplay, Ren Faire garb, or whatever dress-up they may delight in!

$130 will get you ten total hours of hands-on instruction and materials for your mockup (maybe even your first draft!)
