What to Bring
All you need to bring with you, is 1 or 2 denim or workwear garments that are in need of some care. The HeyRaco team will guide you through the creative process.
Hey.Raco community workshops are centred around connecting back in with your creativity by learning sewing and upcycling skills. We see transforming your relationship with your garments and clothing waste, as an extension of transforming our inner worlds. When we empower ourselves with new skills and creative confidence, we can empower and support our collective communities.
Why are we doing this event?
Every day in Australia, nine people die by suicide, seven of them are men.
Men are less likely to seek support for their mental health. Social norms around masculinity create harmful barriers to acknowledging when we’re not doing too well, and make it even harder to reach out for support.
When these barriers prevent men from seeking timely help and mental health issues are reduced to stereotypes, it discredits the diverse and complex reasons one seeks support.
A starting place is to talk to someone you trust. They can be a friend, your partner, a family member, or a colleague. Sharing how you’re feeling and speaking things out loud can sometimes make a huge difference and help lighten the load.
