Event description

11am - 2pm on Sundays from 19 October to 7 December.

$160 per person

Join award-winning costume designer, Lucienne Soulliere in a beginner-friendly, 8-week workshop series designed to teach foundational sewing skills from 11am to 2pm on Sunday from 19 October to 7 December at Moonah Arts Centre.

Lucienne will guide participants through the course, beginning with the basic skills of how to use a sewing machine and overlocker, how to follow a pattern and how to choose the right equipment for the job, including fabrics, threads, needles, etc.

Participants will then choose a pattern or project they wish to complete, spending the remaining sessions working under Lucienne’s mentorship. At the end of the course, take your finished item home to wear or use, alongside your new set of skills to continue creating!

Available for use will be a range of sewing machines, overlockers, ironing boards and basic sewing essentials. Chosen patterns and fabrics should be acquired by the participant by the third session. You are welcome to bring your own materials if preferred. If you have your own sewing machine, we encourage you to bring it to use throughout the workshop, allowing you to learn more about your own machine with Lucienne and continue working on your project at home.

Participants are welcome to take short breaks at any time. Please feel free to bring your lunch, snacks and water bottle. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Lucienne Soulliere is a local costume designer and furniture maker. She is best known for the costume and set design for various local theatre organisations in Nipaluna/Hobart. Lucienne won Best Costume Design at the Tasmanian Council of Theatre awards for "The Balcony" in 2023 and was recently nominated for her work in "The Fan".

Her work is rooted in sustainability, creating pieces from found materials one of her favourite ways to create. She revels in detail, appreciates the silly and enjoys introducing others into her craft.
