Unlock your creativity and master the art of sewing in this comprehensive 8-week course designed for beginners and those looking to refine their skills. Join us every Tuesday evening to explore a variety of sewing techniques and projects under the guidance of our experienced instructor.
Outline:
- Week 1: Get acquainted with your sewing machine. Learn threading, bobbin winding, and experiment with different stitches.
- Week 2: Tote Bag Project. Bring 1 meter of woven cotton fabric and create a stylish tote bag while practicing pivoting and sewing corners.
- Week 3: Zipper Purse Project. Use leftover tote bag fabric and learn two different zipper applications: lapsed and exposed.
- Week 4: Alterations & Repairs. Bring garments that need mending, and we’ll guide you through repairing holes, ripped seams, and alterations.
- Week 5: Overlocking Class. Practice with stretch fabric and learn about stretch stitches by creating a baby t-shirt.
- Weeks 6-8: Work with the instructor to select and complete a basic garment project of your choice.
Important Notes:
- Dates: Mondays from October 7th to December 2nd (No class on November 4th due to Melbourne Cup public holiday)
- Time: 6.15PM - 8:15 PM
- Set Up & Pack Up: Arrive by 6:00 PM for a 15-minute machine setup. Pack up begins at 8:00 PM allowing for 15 minute for Q&A.
- If bringing your own sewing machine, please ensure it is recently serviced and running smoothly to avoid any disruptions during class.
