Event description

The Bookshop Darlinghurst presents Salon Society

Sex and Storytelling with James Tolcher (Poof, Sublimate) and Joshua Fox (What You Into?)

An intimate evening of conversation between two of Australia’s most renowned chroniclers of gay men’s sexual culture.

Doors open at 6pm

Tickets - $20 (includes a glass of wine, beer or soft drink)

About the evening:

J.M. Tolcher is the enfant terrible of Australian queer writing and now he has followed up his very sexy and explicit debut book Poof with a new novella - Sublimate. J.M. Tolcher is visiting from his home town of Brisbane specifically to meet his many Sydney fans and readers at this literary exploration of lust.

Joshua Fox exploded onto the literary scene late last year with his debut memoir What You Into?, a very candid account of his Grindr hookups following the sudden demise of his short-lived marriage. Although the Grindr hookups prompted readers to pick up the book, they also found reflections on mental health and well-being alongside details of Joshua’s brief encounters.

The two authors will be in conversation with a moderator and given the subject of Sex and Storytelling you can expect probing questions and a very intimate and explicit discussion. This talk will be followed by an opportunity for audience members to ask questions, and then to meet the authors at a book signing afterwards. Drinks may be taken into the theatre. Seating is unreserved. Arrive early and browse the fascinating and fabulous exhibits at Qtopia Sydney.

J.M. Tolcher

J.M. Tolcher lives in Brisbane and writes about power, desire and what people do when they think no one is watching. His debut memoir Poof was shortlisted for the Queensland premier’s Award for a Work of State Significance and was a bestseller for The Bookshop Darlinghurst two years running. His new book is Sublimate, a novella – ‘raw, poetic, philosophical and darly confessional’ according to the Star Observer review.

Joshua Fox

Joshua Fox is best known for oversharing on Australian radio and being unashamedly open about his sex life, sexuality and the struggles of being a gay man in the age of Grindr and other hook-up apps. Born in Manchester, he started his career as Britain's youngest paparazzo photographer at the age of 16 before becoming a tabloid journalist at Now magazine, The Sun and Daily Mail Australia. After relocating to Sydney in 2017, he built a following by sharing his videos of crashing Married at First Sight weddings, joining The Kyle & Jackie O Show as producer Yeah But No But Josh, and becoming an unlikely mental health advocate. He is the author of the debut memoir What You Into?
