Event description

Join us at Micro-Labs Melbourne for after-work, on-the-house champagne, and an interactive workshop all about ‘dating yourself’.

Whether or not you are currently in an intimate relationship/s, we promise this workshop will resonate with you in some way, shape or form.

Have you ever wondered that maybe the way we live our lives makes it hard to enjoy ourselves and each other's company?

Many of us live life at breakneck speed, pushed and pulled in multiple directions to be as efficient and productive as possible. Our self-worth is often determined by our jobs, our wealth status, our intellect, our relationships with other people and our ability to 'get shit done'. This lifestyle, and social evaluations at every turn, can have a draining impact on us as individuals and on our intimate relationships. If this is our habitual and default mode of operation, it can cause us to feel disconnected from ourselves and the people we love.

Married, dating, single or ‘it’s complicated’?

We are also often defined by our intimate relationships. There are personal and societal assumptions, expectations and values-based judgements that come with our ‘romantic’ status.

  • Married? When are you going to buy a house together? When are you having kids?
  • Dating? Have you met their parents? When are you getting engaged?
  • Single? Why? I know someone who would be a perfect match for you!
  • It’s complicated? Why not uncomplicate it?

Do these questions resonate with you? Come meet us!

This workshop invites you to deconstruct and tear away at these assumptions, expectations and judgements, and begin the process of building back better. We explore creative, restorative and empowering ways to ‘date yourself’, to build an embodied awareness of your sensations, emotions and sense of being, and to cultivate lasting moments of pleasure, both solo and with your intimate partners.

Looking inwards at ourselves, prioritising ourselves, and feeling and being in the moment - these things are not championed sufficiently in society. Through interactive activities, this workshop encourages you to pause, slow down and reflect on the values you consider most important and gratifying.

Let’s be radical and challenge the social orthodoxy together!
