Event description

The Seminar Series on Sexual harms in Medicine

Following our highly successful International Summit on Sexual Harassment in Medicine in October 2023, we are running a series of online events in 2024. These events will be hosted by Louise Stone, who is the lead editor of an international text book on sexual harassment in medicine. Speakers will include:

  • International experts on sexual safety in medicine from Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas,
  • Experts from law, legislation, trauma-informed care, therapy, medical education and policy and experts in equity and governance.
  • Experts on policy and policy writing assist small groups to refine the sexual safety standards drafted at the Summit
  • Experts on trauma-informed care, rehabilitation and return to work strategies

The purpose of the series is:

  • To share the legislation that underpins our responses to sexual harassment in the medical workplace
  • To share strategies developed in other international jurisdictions
  • To update participants on the latest international research on the prevention, management and rehabilitation of doctors who have been harmed by sexual trauma in the workplace
  • To explore inequalities and vulnerabilities in the workplace
  • To further develop the draft sexual safety standards crafted in the Summit

This seminar will focus on Global Perspectives

We welcome all doctors and medical students to this summit. If you are a professional staff member or from a related industry (such as law) please email me to discuss involvement at louise.stone@anu.edu.au. Like the Summit, we are restricting involvement to doctors, and a safe cohort of others involved in their training, rehabilitation and management. Please understand that this is to ensure a safe experience for attendees.

We follow trauma-informed educational design principles throughout this project, which means we must manage the people in the room to ensure a safe environment for attending survivors.
