Description
Nearly 2 days of immersive science film festival, during 2027 National Science Week, the SFC Film Festival 2027 brings groundbreaking science to life through cinema at Tuggeranong Arts Centre. Explore curated Australian and international films spanning medicine, ecology, space exploration, artificial intelligence, social sciences, indigenous sciences and all other sciences, featuring an inspiring opening keynote, competitive short film showcases, and the exclusive Canberra Premiere of a major science documentary. There's even an opportunity for students and filmmakers to network and spark future projects.
Accessibility is built into the experience with universal open captions on all films, live CART speech to text captioning for stage discussions, step free venue access, and a high definition interactive livestream with moderated chat for remote viewers.
Choose from single session tickets from $5 or full festival pass for $45 including the opening night reception. Alternatively if you can't make it in person book your digital livestream passes to watch online.
Lineup
Session 1: Opening Night & Keynote Address (Friday Evening)
Kick off the festival with an inspiring keynote from a leading Australian science communicator exploring how cinema sparks scientific discovery, followed by an audience Q&A and opening reception.
Session 2: Curated Science Shorts & Emerging Voices (Saturday Afternoon)
A fast paced showcase of diverse short films exploring environmental breakthroughs, biotechnology, and space. Includes original short works from our emerging youth science filmmaker cohort.
Session 3: Science Feature Film (Canberra Premiere)
An exclusive cinema screening of a powerful science film (documentary, sci-fi or animation), preceded by a director's introduction on the real world research behind the film. Note this session will only be in-person due to licensing considerations.
Session 4: Filmmaker Forum, Audience Q&A & Awards Showcase (Saturday Evening)
Hear directly from visiting directors, and panel guests in a live discussion moderated by MC John Kelly, followed by the presentation of the 2027 Science Film Awards and custom medals. Afterwards feel free to mingle network and spark projects.
