Sat, 17 Oct, 9:45am - 4:30pm AEDT

Description

You've got the footage. Now let's finish the story.

This full-day editing workshop is for people who've already been through a Digital Storytellers experience - a workshop, online course, or storytelling program - and have footage ready to shape into a finished video.

You'll work on your own edit throughout the day, guided step by step by the Digital Storytellers team, and leave with a completed short impact story ready to share.

What you’ll learn

In this workshop, you’ll be guided through a step-by-step editing process, including:

  • How to organise your footage before you start editing

  • How to review your footage and choose the strongest story moments

  • How to structure your video with a clear beginning, middle and end

  • How to use b-roll to cover cuts and make your video more engaging

  • Basic editing techniques including trimming, sequencing and adding text

  • How to add music, sound and captions where appropriate

  • How to export your video for sharing online

  • Tips for reaching the right audience with your finished story

You’ll also have plenty dedicated time to work on your own edit, with support from the Digital Storytellers team, and an opportunity to screen your draft for feedback.

Choose your editing tool

Both options are beginner-friendly. Pick whichever suits your device.

Mobile editing: KineMaster

A good option if you want to create videos quickly and accessibly on your phone or tablet.

Computer editing: Clipchamp

A good option if you prefer editing on a laptop or desktop, or want a simple browser-based editing platform.

Both options are beginner-friendly and suitable for creating short impact videos.

Participant Feedback

“ I walked into the room not having a clue how to put together a video and by the end of the weekend felt I had a grasp on a really useful new skill. We’ve made a couple of videos for our organisation and are already starting to see how much difference its making to our comms. Doing the program through the Environmental Film Festival meant we got the chance to meet some amazing young change makers and we’re looking forward to see what all the other participants have been up to”

– Sophie Lamond, Fair Food Challenge

"What a fantastic workshop that allowed for optimal practical and theory application of video creating, which for a complete beginner was perfect. Loved the fact that at the end of the course I could and did make a video!"

- Participant, Sydney 2-Day Intensive
