SHADES Video Club: Run Lola Run (1998)
Event description
We’re dusting off our home movie collection for SHADES Video Club. Popcorn classics, screened for the sake of having a good time.
A whirlwind race against time, a breathless caper, a twisty philosophical game, and, when it first appeared, a fresh breath out of Germany that restored Berlin to its former status as a great movie location, Run Lola Run is smart pop cinema at its best. Lola (the charismatic Franka Potente) receives a frantic phone call from her boyfriend, a local criminal’s errand boy who has just lost a bagful of cash belonging to his boss. If Lola can’t replace the money and get it to her boyfriend in 20 minutes, he’s a dead man. Flipping through the alternatives, Lola quickly settles on a plan: to convince her bank-manager father to give her the cash. Off she sprints, down the stairs and into the streets of Berlin, beginning a breathless race against the clock to save her lover.
