The Shadow is a hidden being inside each of us whom we try to ignore because it embodies our vulnerabilities, flaws, weaknesses, and inferiorities. But denying the Shadow pits us against ourselves and prevents us from realizing our potential.

Join us at the Ojai Retreat for an intimate and deep exploration of the stranger within. As you develop a relationship with your Shadow, you will build true confidence, expand your capacity for intimacy, and gain the ability to express yourself with an authenticity you never thought possible.You will walk away with a steadfast ally for creating the life you truly desire.

This workshop is currently limited to 80 people - so don't wait too long to register :)

Barry Michels -

With his coauthor, Phil Stutz, Barry Michels wrote the New York Times bestseller The Tools in 2012, and its sequel, Coming Alive, in 2017.

Barry was profiled in the March 21, 2011 issue of The New Yorker (“Hollywood Shadows, A Cure For Blocked Screenwriters,” by Dana Goodyear.). Featured by Joel Stein in Time Magazine, he has also been interviewed by Dr. Oz, Lawrence O’Donnell, and Charlie Rose, and has appeared on ABC’s Nightline.

He has published numerous articles online in Psychology Today, Salon, and Quora.

Barry has given workshops at a variety of venues, including In goop Health summits in Los Angeles in 2017, in Vancouver in 2018, and in London in 2019. He has given a Google Talk, and has spoken at 20th Century Fox Television, the University Club of Chicago, the Omega Institute, the Writers’ Guild, the 92nd Street Y, and the Endeavor 2019 annual retreat.

Barry received his A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard College in 1975, his J.D. (law degree) from University of California Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall), in 1979, and his M.S.W. from U.S.C. School of Social Work in 1984.

He maintains a clinical practice in Los Angeles and teaches internationally.

Kristan Sargeant -

Kristan is a coach and therapist with a passion for helping people identify and transmute the blocks to their potential and full self-expression. She trained and currently collaborates with Barry Michels, co-author of The New York Times bestseller, The Tools, and its sequel, Coming Alive. She brings a tools-based approach to her work with individuals and groups, globally, with an emphasis on (and love for) Shadow work.

She leads webinars and workshops internationally and has collaborated with Goop, The Annenberg Foundation, The Omega Institute, Toms Shoes, The Awakened Man, 74Podcast, Clever Creative, Heroic, and more.

In a former life she was an entrepreneur, three-time TEDxWomen producer and co-founder of The Guild, a women’s leadership collective.

She received her BA from Columbia University and holds a masters in psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
