'SHANDY HALLOWEEN' feat. Horse Meat Disco (UK) - Queer Dance Party
Event description
As the storm clouds gather and the rain pours down, the streets are rife with whispers of strangers lurking in the dark wearing black gloves & dark omens that portend the return of The Three Mothers. But the prophecies have long foretold of The Mothers' return and after many years of preparation, the queers of Meanjin will return this Friday to the hallowed grounds of Black Bear Lodge for an ancient ritual called...
SHANDY HALLOWEEN
friday 28th october | 9pm - 3am | black bear lodge
Shandy invites you to imbibe the potions, summon the spirit through dance, and banish malicious entities, as our team of Clo Love, Blake Howson, and Tyler Marszalek transform Black Bear Lodge and transport you into the world of "Giallo" horror films: the Italian genre that emerged in the '60s & '70s with striking visuals, black-gloved killers and buckets of fake blood.
For this GIALLO-ween event, we have secured the expertise of a high priest of the dancefloor to help guide us into deep into the groove - all the way from London, we are thrilled to welcome...
HORSE MEAT DISCO
Horse Meat Disco (HMD) is a club night and DJ collective whose legend is bigger than just about any niche you could try stuffing it in. Originally based out of The Eagle in South London in 2004, HMD has evolved into a powerful force in queer and club culture as a whole, while staying local to its original home, each and every Sunday. A typical HMD set blends classics, italo disco, house, oddities and punk funk, to conjure their initial spirit of “a queer party for everyone”, including, but not limited to, “Homos and Heteros, club kids, bears, fashionistas, naturists, guerrilla drag queens and ladies who munch.” For a taste of their energy, check out their Soundcloud here.
Their music, along with the inclusive and enormously fun vibe, struck a chord both in and out of the gay scene - and in the ensuing years, they've gone from strength to strength, with a series of seminal compilations, a New York residency, a wholly unique party at Glastonbury and hordes of DJ gigs (from residents James Hillard, Jim Stanton, Luke Howard and Severino Panzetta) - all of which have turned Horse Meat Disco into a decidedly international concern.
But that's not all - we've pulled together a line-up of experts in arcane disco magicks to synchronise your vibrations and conjure a deeper connection to the groove ALL NIGHT LONG, including...

~ Last but not least, look out for your friends and other party-goers & stay hydrated!
