Shane Gilbert

Shane’s musical journey began in grade 5 with his first acoustic guitar lesson from Peter Cupples, singer-songwriter for the band Stylus. By 13, he had formed his first band, performing around town and solidifying his passion for music. At just 15, his electric guitar teacher at Soundtrax Studio invited him to teach. Now, with nearly 40 years of experience, Shane has taught at Ballarat High School, St Patrick’s College, Marian College, and more. He currently teaches at Yuille Community College, where he also mentors students on various band instruments in group settings.

Shane has guided countless students who have gone on to form bands, pursue further studies, or become educators themselves. He also enjoys teaching adults, whether they’re picking up the guitar again or seeking advanced lessons. As a seasoned performer, Shane plays solo, with the blues band The McNamarr Project and other top local groups.
His passion for blues also leads him to perform with the Blues Guitar Roadshow.
