Shaping Silver: Metalsmithing with Robyn Nichols
Event description
A 4-Week Workshop on Saturdays
This metalsmithing class is the perfect introduction into the world of Metalsmithing! Learn from celebrated artist and KCAI Alum, Robyn Nichols. Designed for novice metalsmiths, this class will teach you essential hand-tool skills to individually create wearables (jewelry) and/or small sculptural art objects. You will become proficient in sawing, piercing, filing, sanding, forming, forging and pattern-making. Additionally, you will learn to use a flex shaft, polish, create cold connections, and work with a torch for soldering. These skills will guide the design and creation of your unique pieces - whether jewelry or ornamental art. Stone setting will NOT be covered in this class. All students will begin working with copper and progress to sterling silver as their confidence and skills grow. So sign up and bring your ideas of a pendant or brooch (pin) or a simple ring or bracelet…or let inspiration strike you as you work with the tools!
This workshop is generously supported by the Saul and Irene Ellis Family Charitable Fund.
