One difficult task when embarking on a shared value journey is bringing others along. This is true whether you are working in large or small firm, at the executive level or middle management, or sitting within a sustainability team or a standalone business unit. However, your unique position within your organisation does imply different entry points and obstacles to keep in mind as you navigate. Layusa Isa-Odidi will walk participants through some initial approaches to thinking about how best to advocate for shared value from a range of positions and encourage them to reflect on challenges and entry points within their own organisation.

Layusa Isa-Odidi is a Partner with Dalberg Advisors, a leading global social impact advisory firm. She has advised multilateral institutions, governments, foundations, NGOs, and Fortune 100 companies. In Asia-Pacific, she focuses on private sector engagement and development, as well as corporate sustainability.

Layusa’s work on corporate sustainability includes engaging with private sector actors on social impact strategy both core to business (e.g., working with Mars Incorporated to develop a set of strategies for employees in sustainable sourcing teams to increase farmer incomes in the value chains of large buyers in food space in collaboration) or external to business (e.g., working with energy and mining companies globally to design their philanthropic programming). These experiences have given her the opportunity to advise across different levels of organizations and explore ways in which individuals with varying mandates and degrees of influence can advance sustainability within their organizations.

Layusa also works with non-corporates on their private sector engagement strategies. For example, she has worked with UNICEF country offices to design private sector business cases for engaging on child rights and with regional offices in South Asia and East Asia Pacific on how to expand their private sector engagement strategies considering the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before joining Dalberg, Layusa worked with McKinsey & Company in Lagos and the Boston Consulting Group in Boston – advising public and private sector clients on consumer goods, energy distribution, and financial services including to design more inclusive strategies for serving previously underserved populations.

Layusa holds a Master in Public Administration in International Development (MPA-ID) from the Harvard Kennedy School, a Master in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School, and a Bachelor in Arts from Harvard University.
