Sharing Hope invites you to our annual Business Breakfast: Crisis in Myanmar: what can be done?

Join us for a delicious light buffet breakfast as we hear from veteran Australian journalist, Phil Thornton, who was blacklisted by the Myanmar military because of his reporting on human rights abuses in Myanmar.

Tickets can be purchased individually, in groups, or as discounted tables of 10.

Ticket sales from the Business Breakfast will go towards aid projects on the Thai-Myanmar border, supporting refugee and internally displaced communities to access education, medical support and food.

Key Note Speaker

Phil Thornton has worked as a journalist on the Thai-Myanmar border for 20 years. He was blacklisted by the Myanmar military for 12 of those years because of his reporting on the displacement of ethnic minorities, corruption, forced labour and land mines. Phil worked with local Karen people, including a member of our Sharing Hope team, to form Karen News which reports on events in Myanmar and, in particular, the Thai-Myanmar border. Phil is a senior adviser to the International Federation of Journalists in South East Asia and has written features stories and news reports for Australian and international media outlets including The Diplomat, The Age, The Australian, The Bangkok Post, Australian Associated Press (AAP), LaMonde (France) and television content for SBS and the ABC. He has also written reports for Human Rights Watch and has authored a number of books, including one on the Thai-Myanmar border.
