Event description

During this workshop Tiffany will introduce you to the Boro style of mending clothing.  Using a simple running stitch, scraps of fabric and cotton thread you will turn drafty and unsightly holes in clothes into mending statements.

What You Will Need To Bring:

  • A sharp scissors that can cut fabric.
  • A metal thimble if mending jeans or clothing with thick fabric.
  • A small plastic or wooden chopping board to insert in the clothing item they are working on.  This will keep you from accidentally sewing both sides of the garment together.
  • A pair of jeans or a garment that needs mending (preferably not one made of very stretchy fabric).  Jeans and shirts are ideal.
  • Fabric suitable for using for the patch (The tutor will provide a selection of fabrics but you may have something you would prefer to use.  Woven shirt weight / patchwork weight cotton is best).

About Tiffany Westphal: Working primarily with natural fibers her crafting aesthetic has been described as Wabi-sabi. Nothing amuses her more than wondering what she can make with something or how she can extend the life of something. She revels in the challenge of repurposing, mending, upcycling and making do. Imperfections, being remade or reformed speak to her of being valued and esteemed.
