About the event

Project HoriZen warmly invites you to "Shatter the Stigma", the first-ever mental health community connect for Asian Australians, proudly held as part of Asian Heritage Week 2025.

This meaningful event is proudly supported by Asian Australian Alliance and Shapes and Sounds. Join us as we come together to foster connection, raise awareness, and break down the barriers surrounding mental health in our community.

Come along and engage at your own pace—whether you’d like to simply listen or have a chat, this space is for you. The event will be split into two parts:

Inspiring Conversations
We’ll begin with speakers who will shed light on mental health within the Asian Australian community, fostering awareness and understanding. You will have the chance to ask them questions. Plus, take part in our lucky raffles to win some great prizes that have been kindly donated from various Asian-owned businesses.
Our speaker lineup includes: Daniela Ho Tan (architect of this event and a Vietnamese Australian clinical psychologist), Edward Hua (Vietnamese Australian clinical psychologist and co-founder of Thoughts and Things) and Anushka Phal (Fijian Indian educational and developmental psychologist, founder of Umeed Psychology, co-host of "Girls that ADHD" podcast and co-founder for The Shore Project).
Casual Mingling
The heart of "Shatter the Stigma" is about fostering connection in a nonjudgmental, safe space. We aim to create a welcoming environment to help you take that first step toward open conversations around mental health. A friendly team of mental health clinicians—easily spotted in their identifiable "Proudly Asian" t-shirts—will be circulating the room, happy to chat and answer any questions you may have (about anything, not just mental health!).

This event is about breaking down barriers and encouraging meaningful conversations, reminding us of the strength and support that the community can offer. Let's lean into our collectivism!

Please note that Project HoriZen cannot personally endorse or guarantee any of the services provided by the mental health clinicians in attendance. For more specific mental health information, we suggest you speak to your GP to obtain a referral to organise a proper consultation.***
