Description

Learn how to teach STEM & HASS with educational drones

Drone technologies are used across a wide range of industries, and much of the data that informs real-world decision-making has a geospatial connection. Integrating drones into STEM and HASS lessons offers benefits far beyond teaching 21st-century skills—it helps students connect classroom learning to real-world applications and future careers.

She Maps has partnered with BHP to drive gender diversity in STEM-related subjects and spark awareness and curiosity about career opportunities in the geospatial sector. This rapidly growing field is experiencing significant workforce shortages, with demand for skilled professionals continuing to rise—particularly within the mining industry.

We are excited to invite teachers to a full-day professional learning workshop designed to demonstrate how programmable drones can be used to engage a broader and more diverse range of students in STEM and HASS subjects.

This workshop is suitable for teachers who are new to teaching with drones, as well as those with prior experience who are looking to adopt a more intentional, pedagogical approach to using modern technologies. Participants will learn how to create safe, inclusive learning environments where students fly and code drones to solve real-world STEM and HASS challenges.

What others thought

  • 90% of participants said they would recommend this workshop to a colleague

  • While only 60% of teachers felt confident flying drones before the workshop, 85% reported feeling confident using the program in their classroom afterwards

“That was the most engaging PD I’ve done in a long time. Flying drones, learning about their applications, and seeing real-world examples of people working in the industry was incredibly inspiring.”
— Simon Miller, Vice Chair, Australian Geography Teachers Association
