ShedTalk - Overcoming Adversity & Having Fun
Event description
Join us at the Mid North Coast Community College MakerSpace for another in our ShedTalk series of Community Conversations - Overcoming Adversity and Having Fun!
Two people who have battled sudden out-of-the-blue, life-changing challenges are Port Macquarie locals Todd Philpott and Matt Model. Both have endured massive physical injuries, which meant they then had to rebuild their lives from the ground up.
Todd and Matt will share their stories and be keen to hear from young people about their own life battles, when they come together for a barbecue breakfast and Shed Talk at the MakerSpace.
Todd lost one leg in a terrible motorcycle accident and went to become a paralympian, winner of the New York Marathon, and motivational coach for people recovering from injury.
Matt has also recovered from very serious back injuries during war service in Timor Leste, and he has featured as a gold and silver medallist at the Invictus Games. He works in forestry and bushfire control when not helping others with their recovery.
Research shows that sharing stories is one of the best ways to help people heal. Feeling heard and respected is a core aspect of social and emotional wellbeing.
Mid North Coast Community College students from Nautilus and Yulinbal High School campuses and young people attending our Youth Pathway Program will join staff and friends of the college to be part of the conversation with Todd and Matt.
Please register via Humanitix so we can manage the catering for an uplifting morning together.
