Wed, 13 Aug, 9:30am - 2:30pm AWST

Event description

This event, facilitated by Churchill Fellow, Leanne Mitchell. will bring together local government representatives to explore their critical role in preventing homelessness and responding to people experiencing homelessness in their communities. Through peer learning, practical tools, and real-life case studies, the workshop will empower local councils to build more inclusive and housing-secure communities.

The workshop will also serve as a springboard for pre-election advocacy, equipping local governments with the knowledge, stories, and tools needed to influence housing reform and action at all levels.

To help everyone feel comfortable, a chill out space and wellness support are available. Morning tea and lunch will include vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free food for those coming along in person. When you register, please let us know of any other ways we can support your participation.

During the event we will collectively:

  • Highlight the unique levers and opportunities that local governments have in homelessness prevention and response.

  • Share current innovations and effective practices being delivered by councils across WA and other jurisdictions.

  • Amplify lived experience voices and promote inclusive policy and place-based responses.

  • Develop a collective understanding of what practical, impactful local action can look like.

  • Inform the creation of a best-practice resource to support local governments statewide and assist in advocacy to state and federal governments.
