    Event description

We are delighted to invite you to SHIFT’s end of year celebration, a chance to connect with colleagues.  We are so honoured to be joined by inspirational ultra-marathon swimmer and environmentalist, Jono Ridler

In May 2023, Jono completed the longest, unassisted, continuous open-water swim in New Zealand's history to support Live Ocean Foundation – swimming a distance of almost 100 kilometres from Karaka Bay, Aotea Great Barrier Island to Campbells Bay, Auckland.

In pursuing the ultra-marathon swims that he has undertaken, Jono found more than just the pain and glory that comes with completing a challenge of this nature. He found himself - and wants to share this gift with the world to help people discover who they are.

    Jono Ridler
It wasn’t until his 20's that Jono ‘stumbled into’ open-water swimming, encouraged by his father and brother to take part in a local ocean swim event. Describing that experience, he says; “It was three kilometers of pain, fear, anxiety, relief and joy that made me feel unbelievably alive and set me on a collision course with fate.” Before Swim4TheGulf Jono was already one of ten to have conquered New Zealand’s ‘Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming’ having swum 23km crossing Cook Strait in 2019, 40.4km up Lake Taupo in 2020, and 28.6km crossing Foveaux Strait in 2021.

We hope that you will join us for this in person event for drinks, nibbles and to be inspired by Jono’s amazing story. Join us Thursday 7 December from 5pm - 8.30pm (Jono will be speaking at 6pm).
