Event description

Let's connect with the ‘scrappy’ parts of life and ourselves through upcycling and recycling. Creativity and expression is for everyone - let’s play!

Scrappy: consisting of disorganised, untidy, or incomplete parts.

This 2 hour workshop offers a space to connect with the ‘scrappy’ parts of life and ourselves through upcycling and recycling. These practices help us to see the potential in everything, and invite us to give new form and purpose to the things that are often labelled as ‘less than’ or ‘imperfect.’ Let’s be scrappy together, and make some journals while we’re at it.

This workshop will have two main parts. Firstly, participants will learn to bind repurposed pages together by hand. This will involve some needle and thread work, however, other binding options will be available if preferred. Secondly, cover art! A trash trove of materials will be provided for participants to dive into and create the front and back covers for their scrappy journals.

Creativity and expression is for everyone. Let’s play!

About the facilitator:

Sien is a queer, Pasefika, chronically ill maker of things, who enjoys the freedom and possibilities of upcycling and recycling. Sien has delved into sewing, knitting, crochet, collage, book making, and collecting and recycling rubbish into art - discovering the ways in which crafting and making is able to create space for complex feelings, spark joy, and explore and express parts of their identity. They believe that creativity, play and expression is for everyone and is integral to connecting to self, others and the world around us.
