Event description

Short Artist Statement:
Inspired by the embodied mind and the mysteries of consciousness, Shifting Perspectives explores the unseen forces that shape perception. Layers of vibrant color and abstract forms echo the interplay between language, thought, emotion, and the physical body. Within the paintings, mirrored surfaces embedded in the imagery act as a symbol for mirror neurons in the brain, hinting at the connection between self and other. Ultimately, the paintings invite viewers to embark on a journey of introspection; one that questions the nature of reality and the boundless potential of the human experience.

Bio:
As a New Orleans native nurtured by a creative family, Charles Chaisson’s artistic journey began at a young age. Stints at institutions like NOCCA, St. Augustine High School, the Ringling College of Art & Design, and the School of Visual arts have helped him to hone his skills over the years. The experiences garnered at these institutions and the connections made there have lead to a fulfilling freelance illustration career. Between 2020 and 2021 he had the opportunity to work as an adjunct professor at the Rhode Island School of Design before returning to Louisiana. Currently, Charles is delving into abstract art, its openness serving as a refreshing way to explore layered psycho-somatic narratives. By continually witnessing Louisiana’s coastal vulnerability, he’s finding his passion by participating in and fostering collaborative spaces aimed at attaining a sustainable and regenerative future. Since moving back to the South, Charles has become a board member for Common Ground Relief, a New Orleans based non-profit focused on coastal restoration, disaster relief, and community aid, while also acting as the Residency Team Leader for NUNU Art’s & Culture Center based in Arnaudville, LA.
