Shimmying with the Schumanns
Event description
Schumann was a passionate man. Passionate in his love for Clara, for whose hand in marriage he waited many years, and who inspired so many of his compositions. Liederkreis Op.39 is one such work -- a work of anticipation, doubts and intense love awaiting to wed his love. Clara, a noted pianist and accomplished musician in her own right, composed songs alongside her husband to be found in the 'Liebesfruehling' (Love's Spring) song cycle.
Brahms, the mentee of Schumann and Clara was also in love with Clara yet torn in his devotion to Schumann. Sarahlouise Owens and Natalia Tkachenko present a program steeped in passionate expression, combining works of each of them in this turbulent love triangle.
