This Halloween at Beyond

Be afraid.

Be very afraid.

You force the elevator doors apart. Inside the damaged fluorescent light flickers, illuminating the space just enough for you to see the gaping hole in the steel grill of the floor. Gripping the edge of the door you lean over the hole and peer down into the darkness. The hole is lined with some sort of acidic slime that smokes slightly as it continues to eat away at the metal. You turn your head and look upwards, seeing the matching hole burned through the elevator ceiling. You start at a noise behind you, a rapid skittering of many small feet. The fluorescent light flickers one last time then goes out entirely. You hear the noise again. This time it’s closer.

It has been a year today since your mentor, Dr Eldridge Farfellow, passed away of causes unknown and it is only now, as you indulge in a moment of nostalgic melancholy, that you sift through his meager possessions and discover the document. In truth to label such an object a document conjures entirely the wrong image. It is a scrap of a document. A mere fragment, stamped with the etchings of a poorly maintained typewriter, yellowed with age and pock marked by the entropic activities of nameless insects. Still, these letters, faded and archaic, compel you to read them over and over. Even though the words defy pronunciation they demand such focus from your consciousness that your eyes begin to water. What could it mean? “Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh.” What could it mean? Tears stream from your eyes but you do not blink. You read the words again, only realizing after the fact that you have spoken the words aloud.

You enter the house with a simple goal in mind. You don’t have to catch the ghost, you don’t have to calm its spirit and usher it to the next world. You don’t even have to make it accept the presence of the new owners of the house. All you have to do is identify what kind of spirit it is. But you can only carry a few items at a time. Will you stick together? Or split up to cover more ground? Do you just take detection equipment? Or do you sacrifice one equipment slot and take sanity pills instead? While you’re outside it seems like an easy decision, but when you’re in the house and the stress dice start building up it’s a whole different matter. And if it catches you, this ghost won’t just scare you, It will scare you to death.

Saturday the 28th, Beyond Games & Hobby will celebrate Halloween by hosting a very special After Dark event featuring…

Tickets are $40 with dinner included,  available in store or via humanitix.
