Food for flight: building a summer mudflat body
Description
Join Friends of Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary for an informative presentation by macroinvertebrate specialist Josh Nitschke.
Marine intertidal macroinvertebrates perform an array of important ecological functions, including a key role as a food source for predators such as migratory shorebirds. These intrepid travellers need good quality, quantity, and diversity of prey to replenish their energy reserves for long-distance flights.
Many birds rely on the coastal mudflats of southern Australia to provide this vital resource, so it is crucial that we understand the dynamics of prey in these often-overlooked habitats.
A morning tea will be provided.
