We are delighted to be able to provide another exciting opportunity for our community of drumming enthusiasts!

Sam Ward-Hardy has many years experience arranging and teaching drum grooves and is really excited to lead what we hope will be the first of many of his drumming courses!

Here's a course introduction from Sam:

"We will be taking a look arrangements inspired by music from West Africa, Cuba and Brazil, mashing together rhythms such as Bembe, Baile Funk, Afro-Beat, Samba Reggae, Samba de Roda and Cuban Carnaval.

Using instruments from a Samba Bloco we will learn various techniques on how to play each drum effectively and delve more into rudiments to help develop hand speed and precision. We will learn about the role of each instrument and the background of each song. All this will help us to develop the skills needed for improvisation.

Most of the teaching will be done during the sessions through demonstration but videos, music notation and other resources will be provided. Finally we will also be looking at how movement and rhythm are linked and how this can help us internalise complex music. This will also allow us to create some fun and engaging choreography."

Monday nights from 31st Aug until 5th Oct (6 weeks), at Edinburgh College Milton Campus.
