SIA Biennial Conference 2024

The Submarine Institute of Australia (SIA) 12th Biennial Conference (4 – 6 November 2024, Hotel Realm, Canberra) will focus on the theme, Australian Submarines – Cornerstone of Deterrence.

This conference focuses on the full spectrum of sovereign and international academic and industrial collaboration and support required to successfully provide the level of submarine capability necessary as the primary defence deterrent for Australia.

• Undersea warfare technologies. This can include but is not limited to future conventional weapons systems that might be employed in the role of deterrence.

• Social Licence for nuclear submarines. Australia must gain the acceptance of nuclear-powered submarines in the community such that we can maximise the use of nuclear-power technologies as a major deterrence capability.

• Workforce Challenges. To sustain a submarine fleet, Australia must build and sustain a workforce that will meet the demands of a navy that is seeking to deter its adversaries.
