Siapo (Samoan Barkcloth Painting)
Event description
Learn about the historic Samoan tradition of Siapo and try your hand at this workshop. Lila will explain the history and context of this practice, show authentic examples of Siapo work and guide you through creating and designing your own version of Siapo to take home.
Lila is a Tasmanian Samoan interdisciplinary artist and educator who lives with her two daughters and partner in the small coastal town of Beaumaris on Northeast lutruwita/Tasmania. Her arts practice is grounded in Indigenous ways of being, ancient eastern philosophy and wisdom, and nature conservation.
Please note, you are invited to share a complimentary dinner after this workshop (from 8pm-8.30pm) at the Grace Centre, featuring delicious Traditional Chinese Dumplings. Please advise of dietary requirements at checkout.
