Creating folk music that foregrounds fables of the spiritual & personal, Sibyl are a three piece out of Naarm (Melbourne) that emerge with their first full-length offering. Weal & Woe fuses the sensibilities of Lydia Grant (She/Her), Chloe Morgan (She/Her) and Anita Agathangelou (She/Her); a project recorded & mixed by Josh Prendergast (Dayzed) in home studios across 2023, and mastered by Andrew McEwan. The record also features Luke Byrnes (The Double Dole Stringband, Charlotte Le Lievre & more) on fiddle and double bass, and Maisie McKenzie on accordion.
The band formed in 2019 over a mutual love of harmonies, and their shared Emotional Support TV show; Gilmore Girls. Due to lockdowns and living 3 hours apart, their first singles ‘Genesis’ and ‘Porchlight’ weren’t released until September 2023. To celebrate, the band played their first sold-out headline show at Mamma Chen’s in Footscray. Despite feeling like a relatively new project, the band is no stranger to the music industry. Sibyl has performed at many sold-out shows & packed festivals including; Brunswick Music Fest, Bush Music Fest, Holler Fest and Access For All.
Supported by our friend and Bendigo local FLORA;
Flora emerges in the alt-folk scene as a beacon of optimism and healing, intricately touching on themes of mental health and anti-capitalist ideologies in a uniquely introspective way. Flora’s songs form a true representation of recovery and healing. Flora masterfully blends indie folk with the soulful tones of alt-country, creating a sound that is uniquely their own.
Sibyl are grateful recipients of the MusicWorks grant 2024. This album release & regional VIC tour is supported by Creative Victoria.Â
