SIGCHI Brisbane Event: Innovation in Health, Disability and Ageing

Join us for our next event hosted by CARI, Griffith Film School & Experimental Games Lab, located in the fabulous Griffith Film School cinema. During the afternoon we will delve into the latest Computer-Human Interaction research with a focus on aged and disability care. This session will address key industry challenges and showcase innovative approaches through a series of presentations.

Keynote Presentations:

Huy Nguyen - Enabler Interactive

Huy is a social entrepreneur with a mission to make positive change in the industry utilising novel technological approaches to train disability support workers.

Dr Pete Worthy - UQ

Pete is an interaction designer and researcher at the University of Queensland and is co-leading the Florence project, aimed at technological innovations to improve the lives of people living with dementia.

Lightning Talks:

Industry and researchers will present brief, 5-minute talks focusing on their latest research in HCI/CHI, assistive technologies, or novel solutions for aged/disability or rehabilitation.

Death is part of life, and yet – we are not prepared. This presentation discusses the origins and development of GriefGuide - Your 3am Friend, which leverages recent advances in AI/large language models to create a 'virtual friend/confidant/ coach' for people who are grieving.

QUT has been hosting Techshops, technology workshops series for people with disability to meet the technology research community. As they have a go and a lot of fun with various technologies and prototypes, researchers and students receive invaluable insights into the future of inclusive technologies (and inclusive futures for technology!).
