Sign of the Times - Tapestry Workshop with Michelle Hamer

Michelle Hamer’s artworks connect to a unique moment in time. They are a sign, a letter, a scratch of graffiti that speaks to us directly, irreverently encapsulating life and memorialising the everyday.
Join her to create your own bespoke hand-stitched sign. Starting with an artist talk and discussion about Michelle’s practice, participants will discover the techniques involved in creating a photo-real stitched work, from conception to composition. The workshop will cover techniques, tips and tricks of working with perforated embroidery grids.
Suitable for people of all ages (15+) and abilities – no prior experience necessary.

Artist Michelle Hamer has used signage and language to interpret and disrupt relationships to urban environments – both her own and her audiences. Working predominantly with hand-stitching on perforated plastic grids, Hamer is an artist who meticulously observes the city as she moves through it.
