Event description
This course is for anyone that works with or has exposure to Crystalline Silica. The course outlines the necessary skills to identify WHS risks and hazards associated with crystalline silica-containing products, and to plan and implement safe work systems to reduce exposure within mandated limits.
Currently this course is mandatory in NSW, QLD and ACT.
The learning takes place in our Geelong Campus at 20 Little Ryrie St, Geelong VIC 3220. On campus you can put your theory skills into practice, in a controlled environment, with an expert trainer and assessor guiding you all the way.
COURSE TIMES
You will be required to attend this course for 4 hours in duration (not including breaks) on the day you have booked. Class time is 9am - pm to 1:30pm (the extra half an hour is to account for your break on the day)

PROGRAM OUTLINE
What you will learn
- Hazard prevention steps for reducing exposure to respirable crystalline silica. The main topics covered in the course include:
- Identifying products containing crystalline silica
- Understanding legislation and safety standards
- The hazards and risks of silica dust exposure
- Current workplace exposure standards
- Safety data sheets for silica-containing products
- The hierarchy of controls for mitigating risks
- Safe systems for prevention of exposure
- Participants will fully understand how to recognise workplace risks involving silica dust and how to limit those risks through a hierarchy of control measures.

Who needs to complete this course?
Silica awareness training is a program designed to identify and control the potential risk of exposure to silica dust. The training is primarily intended for those in the construction industry. It gives workers the skills and knowledge needed to reduce the health risks associated with crystalline silica.

Working age 15 +

4 hours (not including breaks)
Where is the course held?
If you are in Victoria, it is mandatory that this class is completed face to face.

Do I get the Certificate as soon as I complete the course satisfactorily?
You will receive your testamur Within 14 working days.

The trainer is experienced and will support you throughout
What happens if I fail the assessment?
The trainer will confirm the knowledge gaps and provide necessary training so that you can have another go at the assessment.
Do I need to pay for further training?
You will have 3 attempts to get through the assessment. If there is further training required there may be a fee.
Is the Course valid in all Australian States and Territories?
The course is a Nationally recognised.
Is this course mandatory for anyone working with Crystalline Silica or who may be exposed to it?
It is mandatory in the following States
- ACT
- NSW
- Queensland
