This is a two-week class with the first part taking place on Monday March 1st and the second happening on Monday March 8th. Please come at the same time in the second week as you do in the first.

The price of silver is NOT included, because it will vary depending on the size of the jewellery (and the number of items) you make. Silver costs are based on the size and weight of the finished item and can range between a few dollars to hundreds, this will be explained in the class and you will have full control over this cost in class

What’s it all about?

In this class, you will be taken step by step to create your own lace-print ring with the “Lost wax casting” method. Unlike some of the other silver classes you may have seen here, this one is a great beginner-friendly class and is taught in a step by step method where everyone completes at least a single piece by the end of the lesson.

There is less freedom to “free form” your ring, but lots of hands-on guidance and it is a fantastic class for those who have never worked with this technique and are wanting to try it out for the first time.You will be working to learn how to cut, shape and join waxes as well as learning how to imprint and design rings using provided materials.

* Please note that due to the way this lesson will be running, please do not come with expectations to make up designs that greatly differ from the image shown, if you prefer a more “free form” class, see “Lost wax casting – pendants and earrings” for more teaching flexibility.

What will we cover?

The class will take place over two weeks. In the first class we will learn:

How to outsource to jewellery businesses
About different waxes
How to make a ring
How to clean up and finish cast pieces

Then in the second week we will take our freshly cast pieces and learn:

Different tools to use for polishing metal
Basic hand finish for silver

If you would like to polish your silver with power tools like a dremel, please bring a photo of your tools to the first class. We will be able to tell you if this is suitable to be used for metal polish in the second class.

Would you like to make your own silver jewellery? Learn the fundamentals of the wax casting process to make your own pendant and earrings (hook style). Plus, we’ll learn how to outsource to jewellery businesses to create your own unique jewellery pieces.

We will learn the basics of wax working techniques, as well as very simple metal finishing skills. You will be able to create your very own sterling silver pendants.

What will we cover?

Bring Lace, doilies, pressed flowers

In this two-week class you will learn about the technique of “lost wax casting” and make your own silver pendant and earrings. Learn how to work with the wax and emboss, imprint or carve your design to create into a timeless piece of silver jewellery. (Chains not included.)

In the first class we will learn:

Between the classes, the wax pieces will be cast into silver. Then in the second week we will take our freshly cast pieces and learn:

Who will be teaching?

Qing has been creating her own art and jewellery projects for over 15 years, during which she created custom projects and taught her skills to people of all age groups. Her favorite mediums to work with are paper, fabric and shiny beads; items allowing the freedom to do bold and detailed work alike.
