Silversmithing - design and make a piece of jewellery
Event description
Join Joanne from Manresa Design to create a sterling silver adjustable wrap ring or a textured bangle in this silver fabrication workshop.
What we will cover:
- working safely with metals
- the properties of metal
- how to anneal silver using a butane torch
- working out your size
- cutting and filing silver
- adding texture to the silver with hammers and/or stamps
- forming the bangle using soldering techniques
- forming and shaping the ring using hammers, mandrels and other tools
- shaping the bangle using a mandrel
- polishing and finishing our piece
Safety: Please wear closed in shoes and be able to tie back long hair. Given the nature of the tools used in this workshop it is not open to children.
The workshop requires a minimum of 3 participants to go ahead.
About The Churn Room
The workshop is held in the workshop area of The Churn Room located on the mezzanine floor of the building.
