Simba Sessions Presents: Rod Coote, Flora Falls & Sarah St James/Sadie

The Simba Sessions is a monthly music and poetry night curated around a theme, and a small growing community drawn together by stories and the arts. We build community and seek to hold safe spaces. Here we nurture and celebrate the creative spirit understanding that the stories that lay behind the art are often as powerful as the art itself.

Join us with for a ‘quiet night in’ to explore our stories in poetry and song in candle-lit, wine-soaked warmth. It’s always special and unique!

Rod Coote is an Australian indie folk singer-songwriter in the New South Wales countryside on the outskirts his small hometown of Manilla. His songwriting from his early teens drew inspiration from the natural landscapes surrounded him and listening to Ben Howard, Bon Iver, Dustin Tebbutt and Noah Kahan as a teenager. Now based in Melbourne, his prolific introspective songwriting has led him to work with producers Garrett Kato, Hayden Calnin, Jackson Barclay and to support similar acts including The Dreggs, Winterbourne, Morgan Evans, Steph Strings and Kyle Lionhart.

Flora Falls met under the vibrant Berlin sky, where fate brought Brea and Dom together at an Open Stage in 2019. Drawn to each other’s artistry, a songwriting session soon sparked the beginning of Flora Falls. Since then, this dynamic duo has been on a journey to shape their unique sound, releasing two EPs that have garnered millions of streams and earned features on Radio Eins, Der Kultur Blog, ALEX Berlin, and FLUX FM.

Their music is rich in emotion, laced with humor, and invites listeners into a space of vulnerability and authenticity.

Now, Flora Falls is unveiling a string of singles leading up to their highly anticipated debut album, set for release early 2026.

Sarah St James- or ‘Sadie’- is a trans woman and spoken word poet. Originally born and raised in Meanjin, she has been based in Naarm since 2018. Her writing explores themes of identity, accountability, sobriety and survival through the lenses of gender, sexuality and familial dysfunction. With a background in theatre, Sarah’s work lends itself best to live performance. She has been speaking her poems aloud since participating in ‘Ruckus’ poetry slams and ‘Roving Conspiracies’ open mic events in 2014.

Sarah’s writing has been published in the anthology “In-Flux, trans and gender diverse reflections and imaginings.” As well as “Chaotic Musings Volume 3”
