Singing Stories In Our Own Words - Songwriters' Panel
Event description
As part of the 2024 Warrnambool Storytelling Festival, a panel of songwriters will perform some of their songs and then join to discuss the songwriting process, featuring Gabby Steel, Matt Neal, Michael Honan and other local talent.
Gabby
Steel is a singer-songwriter powerhouse, leaving audiences
spellbound with her enthralling stage presence and striking vocals, as she weaves a tapestry of soul, pop, and jazz
influences into her music to create a sound that is both fresh yet
familiar. At
the heart of Gabby's musical prowess is her honest and authentic
approach to songwriting.
In 2019, the Geelong musician released her
debut, self-titled EP filled with evocative lyrics that tackle big
issues from mental health, gun violence, to bullying. Gabby has gone on
to release a second EP titled Scuttle in 2022 and was recently joined by
her rockin’ girl band for the release of her latest work, The Urge Will
Pass EP.

Matt Neal (AKA 'The Doctor') has been part of Warrnambool's music scene
for 25 years. With 21st Century Ox, he opened for Something For Kate and
The Superjesus, and won songwriting awards.With Doctor & The Apologies, he scored Double J airplay and
supported Painters & Dockers and Dr Colossus. With The 80 Aces, he
worked with ARIA-winning producer Steven Schram, got played on triple j
and Rage, and supported You Am I and Hoodoo Gurus. Across rock, country,
punk, and pop, Matt has proven himself to be a talented songwriter and

Michael Honan ('In This Town', 'Hold On', and his latest release 'Needle and Thread')is an upcoming singer-songwriter from Warrnambool, heavily influenced by country music, and a bunch of other genres. https://linktr.ee/michaelhonan
